- Dr Chris Martin holds fellowships in both Pain Medicine (FFPMANZCA) and Rehabilitation Medicine (FAFRM, RACP), and completed a selected interventional pain fellowship.

Pain management procedures
Image-guided procedures for spinal and joint pain are the largest part of the practice — spinal rhizotomy at cervical, thoracic and lumbar levels, epidural and nerve root injections, and denervation and injection procedures for the knee, shoulder and hip.

Spasticity management

Dr Martin holds fellowships in both rehabilitation medicine and pain medicine, has performed thousands of spasticity injections, and plans each treatment around a defined goal — comfort, care, positioning or function.

What is a pain medicine physician?
A pain medicine physician is a specialist doctor who assesses and treats pain that has persisted beyond the expected healing time, or pain that has not responded to usual treatment. The role involves working out what is generating the pain, which is often more than one thing, and then building a treatment plan around that assessment.
Dr Martin's practice differs from a purely procedural one in that rehabilitation is part of the plan rather than a referral afterwards. An injection may reduce pain enough to make movement possible; what happens in the weeks after that window often determines whether the improvement holds.

About Dr Chris Martin
MBBS, FAFRM (RACP), FFPMANZCA. Dr Martin trained in Rehabilitation Medicine through the Royal Australasian College of Physicians at the State Rehabilitation Service, then completed a Fellowship in Pain Medicine with the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists via Sir Charles Gairdner and Royal Perth Hospitals, followed by a selected interventional fellowship.
